Frequently asked Questions

Where are we located?

We work all over the Central Coast from Woy Woy to Wyee. We don't have a set office or clinic.

How long are the sessions?

Therapy sessions are 60 minutes in duration. This allows time for a check-in with your therapist on what has happened since the previous session, work with your therapist on your therapy goal(s), review and feedback on the session and then transition to finish. This ensures a productive therapeutic experience.

What happens at the initial appointment?

Your child's initial therapy appointment will usually take place at your home. This session is to gather information on your child's medical history, family/social history, to understand what concerns you have around your child's development and to set goals and priorities for future therapy sessions. We will also provide you with information on our service, our therapy model and what you can expect in the future. During this session we decide the best location, date and time for future sessions and how many sessions will be required. We will also observe your child playing and complete a quick assessment if required.

Where will therapy, session be held?

We work in the environment that best suits your child and family goals. Therapy can be delivered at home, childcare, school, and in the community including parks and playcentres.

Does a parent/carer need attend the appointment?

Yes, all sessions must involve a parent/ caregiver, educator or teacher. Joining your child's therapy appointment is important because it allows you to actively participate in their progress, learn how to support their development, and collaborate with the therapist to ensure the best possible outcomes.

What do therapy sessions look like?

Our first few sessions will be around building rapport and observing your child in their natural environments. We begin interacting with your child through play to help build trust and ensure therapy is fun. We work with your child at their current developmental level and start to challenge them as our sessions progress. Therapy is fun and play based.

Clinic vs Community therapy

Choosing community-based therapy over clinic sessions is a great decision for young children, as it facilitates learning in their natural surroundings, encourages social development by engaging with peers, reduces societal stigma, offers convenience by being closer to home, and includes the family and educators in the child's progress.

What is the fee for therapy?

Our fees are in line with the NDIS pricing structure and rates, with Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy services offered at an hourly rate of $193.99

What NDIS funding do we accept?

There are three options for participants using NDIS funding: self-managed, plan-managed and agency-managed. At Little Big Therapy we accept plan managed and self-managed participants. We are unable to offer support to NDIA managed participants.

What is NDIS?

NDIS stands for the National Disability Insurance Scheme. It is an Australian government initiative designed to provide support and funding to eligible individuals with disabilities, helping them to access care, therapies, and other resources they need to live a fulfilling life. At Little Big Therapy, we are proud to offer a range of NDIS-funded services and are committed to helping people with disabilities achieve their full potential, empowering them to live their lives to the fullest.

What is routine based therapy?

Routine-based therapy emphasises improving functional skills through an individual's daily routines and activities. It involves assessing and setting goals based on the person's routines, involving the family, using the natural environment, and emphasising functional outcomes and consistency. This approach is particularly helpful for individuals with developmental or cognitive disabilities, including Autism Spectrum Disorder and physical disabilities.

Do we service Medicare funded programs or privately funded families?

No, Little Big Therapy is solely focussed on providing service to NDIS participants with current funding.

Will I be able to contact my therapist directly?

Yes, once a service agreement has been signed, you will be provided with the mobile number of your therapist. You can then use this for all therapy related communication. All admin and billing related queries will need to be sent to admin@littlebigtherapy.org

What is community based Therapy?

Community-based therapy is an approach that provides therapeutic services and interventions within the individual's natural community setting, rather than in a clinical or institutional environment. It aims to support and improve an individual's well-being, independence, and quality of life by addressing their unique needs and challenges directly within their environment.

What is play based Therapy?

Play-based therapy is a child-centred therapeutic approach that uses play activities to address specific therapeutic goals. It's particularly effective for children, allowing them to express emotions, develop social and communication skills, and work through challenges in a non-threatening and enjoyable environment.
